Bridal Dress Fashion – Varied, Trendy Fashions

January is traditionally the month when brides-to-be, newly engaged during the holiday season, begin shopping for a wedding dress. In search of the gown of their dreams, this year’s brides will find fashions quite varied.

This year, there are a number of distinct trends on the runways that we are featuring in our collection, states Michael Shettel, Director of Design at Alfred Angelo. Glamour and Couture influences are prominent, he explains, but we’re also seeing a return to the traditional, and romantic.

Another trend that continues to grow in popularity is the destination wedding, which logistically requires a dress that can travel, and often demands a more fashion-forward design to suit its wearer and the locale of the event.

This year, with silhouettes ranging from short, straight and stylized to embellished, full-skirted and traditional, a bride can look forward to finding a dress that represents her own personality and reflects the style of her wedding, whatever it may be.

GLAMOUR – Sleek, sophisticated styles reminiscent of the Hollywood of the 1930’s and 40’s are prominent in this year’s Alfred Angelo collection. Smaller-scale dresses featuring empire waists, dramatic neck- and hemlines, mermaid skirts, and lighter fabrics such as chiffon reflect this trend. Trista’s gown evoked this style as well, with its slimmer, sexier styling.

Another popular style element is the shorter or tea-length dress, often shown with a fit and flair style skirt. This look is flattering to many figures and reflects the 1950’s, an era whose fashions have recently returned to the runways. This year, brides who are looking for glamour have a number of dresses to choose from, each at an affordable price point.

COUTURE INFLUENCE – Since the advent of bridal gowns created by some of the world’s most elite fashion designers more than a decade ago, bridal fashions have been influenced by couture wear. This season, color becomes its own trend in bridal gowns, playing a bigger role as both an accent and an overall design feature.

In addition to colored lace and beads, colored dresses also make an appearance. From the popular champagne and pale pink to the more unusual Spanish moss and glacier blue, color is a key element of couture-inspired designs. Brides will also find crystal embroidery and multi-color beading as well as asymmetric drapes and hemlines.

ROMANCE/TRADITIONAL – For the bride who dreamed of her wedding since she was a little girl, there continues to be an array of romantic and traditional wedding gowns. Every bride in a wedding gown carries an element of romance with a nod to tradition but the bride looking specifically for this kind of dress focuses her search on time-honored silhouettes that accent the feminine, youthful glow of a bride-to-be and flatter every body type. Lustrous satin, beads, and lace, with fuller skirts and longer trains evoke the feelings of the past.

Romantic lace appliqués on white and ivory gowns are always a popular option for brides. After more than 75 years in the bridal business, no manufacturer offers a better selection than Alfred Angelo, in sizes 2-28.

DESTINATION – Each year, there is an increase in the number of brides who say 'I Do' on the beach, in the mountains or in another romantic locale. Destination weddings, as they are known, involve transporting the bride, groom, wedding party, and guests for a ceremony and festivities that last anywhere from a weekend to a week. Generally smaller in size, these weddings reflect the personalities of the bride and groom more than any other type of celebration.

Dresses for the destination wedding often reflect the location. For the beach, brides choose informal, shorter, lightweight styles that look beautiful but will work in the sand and in close proximity to the water. For a city wedding, a bride might choose a more substantial fabric, but still a simple silhouette that will be easy to transport and nearly ready to wear when unpacked.

Whatever her preferred trend, this year’s bride has an unparalleled opportunity to walk down the aisle in the gown of her dreams, without spending a fortune. Alfred Angelo offers more than 100 designs in sizes ranging from 2 to 28, regular and tall lengths, at prices under $599.

The line is available at leading bridal retailers across the country and in nine Alfred Angelo Bridal Company Stores in South Florida and Southern California. The company also sells affordable dresses for bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids, mothers, and flower girls.
